Co-designing Equitable Futures (CDEF) is a collaborative project coordinated by MarĂa Rogal, Dori Griffin, and Laura Gonzales. As professors at the University of Florida who are invested in community engagement, we created this project to connect with our local community in Gainesville and to foster respectful collaborations among University students and faculty and our local community members.

CDEF is a project about making connections: across communities, between different fields of study, among people with different backgrounds and interests, and more. The goal of the project is to connect community and University members to engage in important questions, such as:

  • How can we be more connected to our communities?
  • How can we foster more positive connections within and between the University and local communities?
  • How can we use our resources in productive ways, guided by our community’s work and knowledge?

Through support from the Center for Arts, Migration, and Entrepreneurship (CAME) at UF, we’re kicking off CDEF through a series of community conversations led by local experts. This fall, the project kicks off with a speaker series, providing a platform for local innovators and leaders to share their lived experiences and ideas about building community in Gainesville. Join us at our monthly events and learn about further opportunities to become part of this exciting initiative.
